Jhelum’s water level of Jhelum near Ram Munshi Bagh was 13.20 feet at 6:15 pm which is below the mark of 18-ft when the flood alert is declared. However, it has crossed the upper limit at Sangam. The authorities have already sounded a red alert in south Kashmir as Jhelum crossed danger mark of 19 feet at Sangam in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district. The water level recorded at 6:15 pm was 22.30 feet, an official at flood control room of the department told GNS. A Meteorological department official told news gatherer GNS that from 8.30 am till 5.30 pm on Wednesday, 32.8 mm rain was recorded in Srinagar, 79.8 mm in Qazigund, 30.2mm in Pahalgam, 20.8 Kupwara and 55.8 in Kokernag. In Kulgam at least four bridges were washed away in the flood so far and two are severely damaged. Islamabad Deputy Commissioner has reported dangerous increase in water level and flood alert has been sounded. “We had made all arrangements but the water level has increased to a dangerous level and we can’t do anything to stop it. We have asked police, CRPF and army to assist us,” he said, adding several roads have been waterlogged in the main town while there is also increase in water in river Lidder.
