Jim Jeffries has a whole bit in his latest stand-up special, BARE, on the issue of gun-control. He starts of explaining that hes about to state his opinion, as well as a number of facts. He goes on to - correctly - note that 50% of the audience is going to hate everything hes saying for the next few minutes, and that 50% would be broken down as follows: 20% (of the total audience) will recognize that its a comedy show and laugh at whatevers funny. Another 20% will be staring off into space, bored by the bit. Personally, I straddle the line between these two: mostly bored, but occasionally chuckling. The last 10%, however, Jeffries says will be seething mad, and Im sure thats true as well. However................ Jeffries claims that the main reasons people are going to be seething mad are because 1) hes making good points; and 2) hes a foriegner. But heres what hes wrong about... 10% of his audience is mad, and 20% of his audience is bored not because hes making great points (hes not, and his facts, such as The UK banned guns and theyre doing fine, are terrible), or because hes a foriegner (most of that audience would seethe if an American made the same points). Theyre pissed because Jeffries is the only one on stage with a microphone.
