Jim Witter: Bringing 70s Nostalgia to the Stage HYANNIS, MA—January 28, 2014 Jim Witter was in his first band when he was 12. Even from that young age, he knew music would be his career. He “paid his dues” in night clubs and bars in Southern Ontario for years before catching his big break. In 1990, his demo tape caught the ear of a Sony Music Canada executive. A record deal with a small independent label in Canada gave way to a multi-record deal with Curb Records of Nashville (also the home of Tim McGraw, Leanne Rimes and Wynonna Judd). His successes continued with 10 top ten hits in Canada, seven hit videos on Country Music Television and nominations for multiple awards from the Canadian Country Music Association, the Juno Awards (Canada’s Grammys) and a Dove Award nomination for Inspirational Album of the Year. Even with such major career victories conquered, and incredible opportunities to share the stage with country music legends such as Faith Hill, Toby Keith and Shania Twain, Witter had yet another dream in his heart. “I was at a point in my life where I was becoming nostalgic for everything in my youth: the toys I grew up playing with, the TV shows I watched, the music I listened to,” he said. And that was the starting point for Piano Men, his rock musical show that would take audiences back to the 70’s and feature the hits of Elton John and Billy Joel. “I was always a big fan of acoustic music – especially the folk of the 70s: James Taylor, Harry Chapin, but my real mentors were Billy Joel and Elton John,” said Witter. The multi-media rock musical that started as a way to re-live one man’s youth has encapsulated “the best years” of thousands across North America. Let Jim Witter and his Piano Men performance take you back to My Life, Your Song and the days of Philadelphia Freedom. “All I’ve ever wanted from this business is to be able to support my family and to make people feel a little better when they hear my music. To help them forget about their troubles for a while and enjoy the moment,” said Witter, a dad of four. “If I can continue doing this 5, 10, 15 years down the road, I’ll be perfectly happy.” The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra is proud to feature Jim Witter in Piano Men on Friday, February 14 (8 p.m.), Saturday, February 15 (8 p.m.; Limited Seating Available) and Sunday, February 16 (3 p.m.; Sold Out).
