Jims Daily Awakenings for November 8, 2013 Let me tell you a secret about marriage: not long after folks get married at least one person, and often both, think, I may have made a mistake. It does not take long for disappointment to invade the home of newlyweds. How do some couples survive and flourish while others end up in divorce court? There are many answers to this question - reading books, attending seminars, learning to communicate, counseling, forgiveness. But none of these means are available if there is not a commitment to honor the marriage vows. Duty is an unpopular word in our time. It reminds us of negative concepts like obligation and demand. We prefer freedom and the pursuit of pleasure. But, like it or not, when we get married we make a sacred vow to maintain the relationship For better or for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, as long as we both shall live, until we are parted by death. If you dont intend to keep this promise, dont get married.
