Jirachi’s Anime Review of “Rosario+Vampire” (Rozario to - TopicsExpress

Jirachi’s Anime Review of “Rosario+Vampire” (Rozario to Banpai) Genre: Harem/Comedy/Supernatural (monsters) Seasons/Episode count: 2 seasons (so far), 13 episodes per season, 26 episodes total. Initial thoughts: Fanservice. That is all. Summary: Tsukune, our (human) protagonist, ends up going to a school for monsters. He meets and befriends Moka, a vampire, who ends up being the only reason he wants to stay at the school (to begin with). As the show progresses, random shenanigans happen and Tsukune finds himself as the object of desire for an entire harem of monster girls. Characters: Oh great, the first of this anime’s shortcomings. There is very little, if any character development at all. In my very humble opinion, character development is NEEDED to make an anime good. Let’s start with Tsukune Aono. He’s your typical harem main male character...a complete f*cking blockhead. Seriously, this guy has at least 5 girls who clearly want him in their pants, yet he NEVER. DOES. ANYTHING. Seriously, I think the vast majority of harem animes exist to frustrate the ever-living hell out of any straight guy who watches them. He never really grows past the weak male version of the “damsel in distress,” and really just seems like a jerk because for all intents and purposes, he just ignores his harem. Sure, he shows signs of liking Moka more than anyone else, but heaven forbid if he did anything. Now for all the female cast, all fairly basic. You have the deadpan stalker (Mizore, a snow fairy), the straightforward flirt (Kurumu, a succubus), the loli (Yukari, a witch), and the goth chick (Ruby, another witch). The only character who isn’t completely your stock anime character is Moka. Now, Moka has this rosary around her neck that seals her powers. When her powers are sealed, Moka is your basic naïve, energetic, and generally friendly pink-haired girl. When Tsukune removes the rosary, Moka’s full power is unleashed and she becomes a silver-haired, very cold, very powerful vampire ass-kicking machine. So you have that whole split-personality thing going, which is somewhat original. Plot: An episode of R+V in a nutshell: Some monster starts creating trouble for the school or our protagonists. After fighting with the issue for a bit, eventually the monster is confronted, Tsukune takes off Moka’s rosary and Moka beats the crap out of the offending monster. If the monster in question is a girl about the same age as Tsukune, she will join his harem. If not, this character is probably pointless and will never be seen again. Fanservice: Yes, there is a fanservice section in my reviews for animes that have a lot of it. Rosario+Vampire probably tries to have a panty shot once every 7 seconds. It’s to the point that it’s annoying. Aside from panty shots, I don’t remember there being much other kinds of fanservice until season 2, when you have all the girls topless in a hot tub. Sound, Music, and Voice Acting: Meh. Nothing to write home about. There is an English dub for this anime. It’s not terrible. Final thoughts: It’s a really basic harem anime. I mean, I could probably just copy/paste the “Characters” section, change the names, and have it describe a few other harem animes perfectly (To Love-Ru comes to mind). It’s by no means BAD, but it has a lot of wasted potential and there are quite a few other animes that would be a better way to spend your time. However, if you want to watch a somewhat funny show with two cubic tons of panty shots, by all means, go ahead. Just don’t expect anything too great. Score: 6.85/10 meh
