Although specific duties vary, the career of an intelligence officer is based on information usage. There are several common job duties of an intelligence officer. 1. Intelligence Collection The primary responsibility for intelligence officers is intelligence collection. Using their own specialties (such as using satellites imagery or monitoring radio communications), these officers gather information on enemies and suspicious activities. If the idea of spying on the enemy excites you, a career based on intelligence collection is for you. 2. Analysis Many intelligence officers do not actually collect intelligence but rather use intelligence which has already been gathered to draw conclusions. Simply put, intelligence officers who focus on analysis act as detectives; they use the intelligence as clues to unravel the mystery of what the enemy is doing. This makes a career as an intelligence officer ideal for you if you have strong deductive reasoning skills. 3. Reports One duty which all intelligence officers have is reporting their observations and gathered intelligence to others. Usually, this means briefing higher-ranking individuals of gathered intelligence so that units can plan further actions and operations. In addition, intelligence officers are usually required to report their findings in a log so that others can access their information and provide further analysis. 4. Intelligence Security Another common duty intelligence officers have is keeping intelligence secure. When sensitive information needs to be stored, intelligence officers use strict protocols for ensuring that this vital information does not fall into the wrong hands. This includes maintaining a secure environment for physical records and other items and keeping digital information inaccessible to those who arent authorized to access it. There are many duties which intelligence officers routinely perform.
