Job Opportunity: Health Educator : Johns Hopkins University - Baltimore, MD Health Educator in the Washington DC, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County area needed for a research study about different techniques to help informal caregivers deal with agitation and aggression in persons with dementia. This is a Three (3) year NIA-funded intervention/attention control study. Health educators will serve as the interventionists for the Attention Control Group. The health educators will meet with the person with dementia and their family caregiver in the home for up to 8 sessions over the course of 3 months. Health Educators will perform assessments of (1) the home environment, (2) the person with dementia’s fall risk, and (3) provide education on being a medical advocate and planning for the future to the caregiver. Health Educators will be trained on the intervention. The primary duties and responsibilities of the job: Schedule multiple appointments with participants. Perform assessments of both the home environment and persons with dementia. Provide education on home safety, fall risk reduction, being a medical advocate and planning for the future with the caregiver and the person with dementia. Maintain accurate records of all intervention activities. Follow all study IRB approved protocols and procedures. Attend team meetings. Communicate with study Program Manager and Principal Investigator about all schedule changes and study related issues. Participate in scholarly work related to the Danger Assistant as needed, finding and reviewing relevant literature, and contributing to development of abstracts, presentations, or manuscripts in collaboration with the study investigators. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in health education, gerontology or a health related field. Some related experience including Homecare experience and experience working with persons with dementia. Ability to follow research protocol. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Flexible schedule. Strong organization and problem solving skills required. Must be able to work independently. Must provide own transportation to sessions. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. JHU Equivalency Formula : 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
