Job Opportunity at Whitworth BIOLOGY LAB COORDINATOR FULL-TIME, 10-MONTHS (AUGUST – DECEMBER/FEBRUARY-MAY; HALF TIME JUNE & JULY) COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT HIRING RANGE: $15.98 - $16.92 PER HOUR FUNCTION: Reporting to the Biology department chair, helps coordinate biology teaching lab activities and provides laboratory and office management services. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. Teach 4 to 6 introductory biology laboratory sections per semester; lab activities are pre-designed by faculty in the biology department; up to 3 evening lab sections per semester. 2. Supervise student lab assistants (TAs). 3. Coordinate activities in biology teaching labs. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a minimum of 3 years closely related work experience; Master’s degree in the biological sciences preferred. • Greenhouse experience and/or work with plants, algae and/or fungi preferred. • Understanding of basic biological laboratory procedures. • Knowledge of safety procedures (or willingness to learn). • Ability to operate laboratory equipment. • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students in a professional, considerate manner. • Ability to set priorities and work independently. • Willingness and ability to learn new skills. • Computer proficiency in Word and Excel, familiarity with spreadsheets and database skills desirable. • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning. • Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives. • An active commitment to equal opportunity for all persons. • A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a Christian liberal arts institution affiliated with the Presbyterian church. • Background check required.
