Job Opportunity with World Bank Research Analyst / Junior Professional Associate (JPA) (Two-Year Contract) Location: Washington D.C. Economic Policy Group (LCSPE) Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Department Latin America and Caribbean Region World Bank 1. Background The Economic Policy Group (LCSPE) of the Latin America and Caribbean Region in the World Bank assists a diverse group of clients, ranging from upper middle-income countries like Brazil to low income countries such as Haiti, through lending, analytical work, and advice primarily in the following three thematic areas: (i) fiscal policy; (ii) growth; and (iii) trade. In addition, the group also serves an important role as integrator of the World Bank’s broader analytical and operational work at the country level, and as a first point of contact for internal demands for country-specific economic data and briefs. The Economic Policy Group is seeking for two experienced Research Analyst (RA) who will assist the economists in conducting quantitative analytical work. 2. The JPA Program The candidate would be hired under the conditions of a Junior Professional Associate. Applicants must be age 28 or less at Entry of Duty date. Scope of work The research analyst is expected to perform the following tasks: • Work on macroeconomic and fiscal simulation tools to support the economic and sector work in the unit; • Collect and manage relevant macroeconomic data; • Perform statistical analysis for country work as required; • Respond to ad hoc data requests from the economic team, the country team, other parts of the Bank and outside agents; • Participate in a range of analytical and operational tasks, as needed. 4. Qualifications required • Masters Degree or Ph.D. student in economics or related discipline, with superior academic record; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Strong quantitative analytical skills. • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and some knowledge of (or capacity to learn) standard Bank program for macroeconomic analysis. • Solid knowledge of STATA programming language or comparable statistical analysis software (e.g. E-views). • Experience with managing large datasets. • Familiarity with main World Bank/IMF economic databases, as well as key external databases would be an advantage. • Well-developed interpersonal and team working skills. • High motivation, flexibility, reliability and a proactive approach to working with all staff in a team-driven environment, and initiative and ability to work on his/her own; • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Spanish and/or French is a plus. 5.
