The position has responsibility for the leadership and management of the Universitys administrative and finance operations, is a member of the presidents council, and reports directly to the President. The vice president is responsible for providing executive level direction and management oversight for financial planning, accounting and business operations, finance controls and reporting, investment oversight, risk management and insurance, human resources management, purchasing and contracts, mail services, and travel operations. Qualifications and Experience Must have a Bachelors Degree in business or accounting from an accredited college or university. An advanced business degree is preferred. Certified Public Accountant is a plus. Skill Set (a) Proven leadership in a large, complex organizational setting, preferably within a university; (b) demonstrated understanding of and commitment to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Church Education System (CES) standards and philosophy; (c) proven ability to work as a team player, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and the ability to tolerate and flourish in an environment characterized by multiple complex factors, competing priorities, ambiguous situations, and resource challenges; (d) ability to supervise and evaluate assigned staff while building a highly effective working team; (e) ability to interpret and apply University policies and procedures; ability to resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view; (f) knowledge of and ability to utilize information especially from ERP database; (g) must have excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills, both oral and written; (h) ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions which includes the ability to formulate, test and utilize a spreadsheet model; (i) ability to exercise effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills successfully apply leadership, management, communication, and organizational skills with confidence and integrity; (j) ability to work effectively with financial data files and systems (k) comprehensive knowledge of the specific duties and responsibilities of a chief finance officer within a private university context. License or Certification: Valid drivers license Work Schedule The incumbent is expected to be at work at least 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday with one hour lunch break. The incumbent may also be required to work on some weekends, evenings, or holidays when special events are held at the University. Major Accountabilities Fiscal & Fiduciary Operations (a) Provide leadership and oversight in the accounting, financial and control reporting, internal auditing, and long-term financial planning of business affairs of the University in consultation with the President; (b) advises President on all financial related matters of the University through regular reporting, meetings, and conferences; (c) assists the President and other administrators in gathering, collating and analyzing data relative to the financial operations of the University; (d) monitors and provides leadership in the development of the University budget and controlling expenditures within the approved budget; (e) monitors budgets for all campus departments; (f) reviews University department budgets and makes allocations accordingly to guard against unwarranted expenses. Leadership (a) Participates as a member of the Presidents Council, the governing body of the university, which makes decisions relating to university policy, the hiring of employees and related personnel matters, wage rates, student fees, budget revisions, and housing charges; (b) participates as a member of the Executive Compliance Committee, and the Audit Committee and serves as chairman for one or more of the following: the Administrative Services Council, the Safety Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, the Scholarship Board, the IWORK Committee and the Student Health Benefit Committee; (c) provides leadership and oversight of the following departments: Human Resources, Housing, Financial Services, Student Employment, Security, and Materials Management. Additional Duties: (a) Oversees the operations and policies of the assigned Administrative Departments; (b) monitors tuition costs and fixed fees; (c) ensures that monies received from students appropriately reflect their housing, food service, and tuition costs; (d) acts as a liaison with outside legal advisors regarding lawsuits, trusts, procurement and endowments; (e) provides administrative support to the Internal Audit Director, who reports to the President; (f) makes routine decisions relating to duties or functions of staff members, purchasing and financial exceptions, and other related matters; (g) serves on support committees as a voting member; (h) other tasks as assigned by the President.
