Job Title : Commercial Landscaper Installed Salary / Pay Rate : Type of Industry : MAINTENANCE Employer / Location : Colusa Deadline : Description : Fulltime Job Function: Responsible for directing the day-to day operations of all crew members and overall responsibilities for the successful planning and execution of landscape projects including layout/design and installation of softscape, hardscape, irrigation, drainage, lighting, water features, flat work and chemical application. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Overseeing the design and installation of a variety of projects, including urban/native regeneration schemes, pedestrian schemes, road or retail schemes, and maintaining the character of sites of natural beauty. * Develop and maintain planting, pruning, watering, and chemical application schedules on seasonal schedule per year. * Able to identity plants, grasses, trees and weeds. * Able to identify common pests and diseases on plants, trees and lawns. * Assign and monitor Maintenance Technicians (MT) activities, coordinates the work of grounds contractors trains and instructs others and helping them to develop their professional skills and experience. * Able to read blue prints and schematics. * Orders chemicals related to the control of weeds, rodents and plant growth; provides training and completes Safety Data Sheets regarding chemicals; completes chemical use reports related to their application. * Inspects equipment before use to ensure proper and safe operation; prepares fuel mixtures for daily operation of equipment operates and maintains assorted equipment. * Maintains grounds surrounding buildings by cutting grass, watering, trimming trees from ground level, cultivating flower beds, trimming shrubs and hedges, and caring for sprinkler systems as needed. * Manages pest, disease and weed control programs, corresponding with hygiene and health standards. * Determines best methods of planting, spraying, cultivating and harvesting. * Keeps up to date in your specialist area and in developments in the whole horticultural sector. * Prescribes methods of transplanting, protecting and developing plants, trees and shrubs * Estimates labor or material costs from blueprints or work plans * Completes work in a timely manner. * Complies with company policies and enforces safety regulations, maintains high confidentiality standards at all times. Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment. * Will be involved with managerial duties more than half of any given day. * All other duties as assigned. Additional Desired Qualifications: * Committed to safety with the ability to enforce safety policies and regulations on every project. * Proficiency in motorized and/or power tools and equipment. * General knowledge of horticulture management. * Scientific understanding and knowledge of the traditional skills of cultivation. * Knowledge of greenhouse and nursery management, modern biological and chemical plant and pest control methods, plant pathology, histology and anatomy * Have a strong background in landscape management best practices having educational background and work experience on large-scale commercial properties. * Ability to perform all aspects of pest, weed and plant growth control in a safe and effective manner; schedule and monitor chemical use; prepare reports; care for and maintain tools and property; follow oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others; train and oversee others. Education and Experience: * Three (3) years of management experience. * At least five (5) years experience of landscape construction experience. Physical Requirements: * Will be required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, reach and/or kneel. * Ability to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. * May be required to move or lift supplies up to 50 pounds. * The noise level in this environment is usually moderate to loud. * May be exposed to various seasonal elements such as rain, wind, cold and heat in excess of 90°. * May require use of personal or company vehicles. Must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid drivers license and have an acceptable driving record. Licensing Requirements: * Valid PCO license or ability to obtain one * PCA license desired Key Competencies: * Satisfactorily completes all tasks. * Follows through on assignments. * Needs only limited supervision. * Finds something that needs to be done and has a willingness to address the issue. * Dedicated hard worker with ability to report to work on a daily basis.
