Ave., Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Department: Utilities/ Wastewater Print Job Information | Apply Benefits Supplemental Questions This position is responsible for the mechanical maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment plant. Major Duties: Performs preventative, corrective, and work order maintenance duties; repairs or recommends replacement of chemical feed pumps Secures pricing for new equipment and repair parts Performs minor electrical work; changes fuses, motor starters, transformers, and control cabinets Sets up and maintains maintenance software Installs new equipment and capital improvement items Operates truck for hauling sludge; operates heavy equipment Maintains plant grounds; paints and cleans plant facilities Collects samples and completes laboratory tests Repairs or replaces pipes and pipe fittings Maintains inventory of parts and supplies Assists in the development of the maintenance budget Cleans up sludge spills Inspects and repairs chemical feed equipment, chlorine regulators, manifolds, gas detectors, and sodium bisulfate feed system Responds to emergency situations Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated Additional Information: KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies Knowledge of the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical systems used in a wastewater treatment plant Knowledge of electrical and plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance Knowledge of state and federal environmental and wastewater plant regulations Knowledge of biological, chemical, and mechanical principles of a wastewater plant. Skill in the operation of heavy equipment Skill in the laboratory analysis of wastewater samples Skill in the training and supervision of personnel Skill in oral and written communication SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Wastewater Plant Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES: Guidelines include Environmental Protection Agency regulations, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality regulations, OSHA guidelines, and City policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related mechanical repair and maintenance duties. Equipment failures contribute to the complexity of the position. SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to repair and maintain plant mechanical equipment and to transport sludge to the landfill. Successful performance ensures the safe and regulated treatment of wastewater. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with city personnel, vendors, members of the general public, and state and federal regulatory agents. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, and to provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in wastewater treatment facilities and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
