Job opportunity: Job with the amazing Pilipino Workers Center: Community Organizer for AFW Pilipino Workers Center of Southern California seeks a full-time bilingual Community Organizer (must be bilingual in Tagalog/English), to work under the direction of the Associate Director. The Community Organizer is responsible for organizing of the Association of Filipino Workers (AFW is the member lead organization within PWC), as well as, implementing PWC’s outreach strategies to empower a base of low-wage Filipin@ immigrant workers. The Community Organizer will develop grassroots leadership within the AFW and must have a passion for social justice. Duties and Responsibilities: • Service and Program implementation that help in engaging and organizing community members to be a part of PWC/AFW. • Provide training to PWC/AFW members on the principles and concepts of community organizing; • Conduct one-on-one visits with grassroots community members and influential, external leaders on a consistent and regular basis; • Conduct outreach, research, and strategic planning to move members to social action; • Coordinate large community action meetings; • Participate in coalition meetings where PWC/AFW is a member, like the Immigration Reform Coalition, Caring Across Generations, California Household Workers Coalition, etc. • Participate in community meetings, visibility/events, and conferences as needed. • Conduct social media outreach. • Supervise interns and volunteers. • Maintain cooperation and participation with other staff. • Participate in staff meetings and other agency required events. • Prepare required monthly reports, communications and other documentation. • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Ability to: • Work with diverse set of members, residents and stakeholders. • Foster open communication within and among diverse groups. • Work in a team environment. • Work with minimal supervision. • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends Desirable Skills & Qualifications: • Degree in related field or combination of equivalent work experience and education. • English/Filipino bilingual preferred, knowledge in Spanish as well is a plus, but not required. • Knowledge in social media (facebook, twitter, Instagram, thunderclap. etc) highly preferred. • Experience in volunteer management, meeting facilitation, and/or community relations. • Knowledge of worker organizing highly preferred. • Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills. • Success oriented, assertive, high achiever, with demonstrated leadership and management skills. • Experience with public speaking and presentations. • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills. • Must be computer literate, knowledge of MS Word and Excel required. • Must own a vehicle and appropriate auto insurance coverage and a valid California Driver’s license.
