Job’s much-talking ‘comforters’, Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar just spoke about affliction. For some people life is all problems. There are preachers that often talk about a substitute for faith - and many a sermon is a justification for unbelief. Jesus was no more interested in philosophizing about illness than a surgeon is with a patient on the operating table. He offers no explanations. ‘The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s works’ (1 John 3:8). His answer is not words, but ‘by His stripes we are healed’.
