Joes Grandparents and Aunt came up today to visit. I know Joe enjoyed the company. They stopped by the house and picked up the cookies my mom made Joe and my work clothes, which I appreciated so I didnt have to drive over the bridge home and back again after work. As expected, Joes pain is caused by the Neupogen injections. It hurts worse when he breathes deeply, so Dr Staddon said dont breath deep, lol. Hes to take it easy, relax, watch lots of tv, and play his DS. Hell continue to receive Dilaudid every two hours. When the pain is gone, he goes home. Im not sure if the plan is to switch to a lower dose of Neupogen, switch back to Neulasta, switch to a different medication, or try to proactively treat the pain before it gets bad. Bone pain is a very common issue with these injections but infinitely worthwhile, given the alternative of a severely compromised immune system. Dr Staddon and Leticia have tackled every issue Joes had and resolved it so Im confident whatever happens next round will be a step in the right direction. I was sold on their awesomeness when they managed to get control of his nausea, which I thought impossible. I never fail to be impressed with just how wonderful the staff is here. Its a special person who chooses to work in oncology, and while Id rather us not be here, Im grateful for the care Joe receives. Makes it easier to walk out in the morning to head to work. The pain is definitely better controlled, and his sense of humor is back in force, so I think sleep might actually happen tonight. Yay!
