Johann Lamont must publish Cuts Commission report Sat, 22/03/2014 Johann Lamont has faced calls for her to publish the final report of her Cuts Commission which threatens popular policies of the Scottish Government – after it emerged that her party’s latest publication has completely ignored a series of key policies jeopardised by Labour’s cuts agenda. Ms Lamont made her now infamous ‘something for nothing’ speech announcing her Cuts Commission in September 2012 – but the commission is yet to issue its report detailing which of the vital policies would be cut – with free prescriptions, free tuition fees, free personal care and the over-60s bus pass all potentially facing Labour’s axe. The document published at Labour’s conference, ‘Together we can’, makes no commitments on a series of policies – including a refusal to commit to maintaining the right to free education. Commenting, Glasgow Kelvin MSP Sandra White said: “So far, Labour’s conference has avoided the issue of the Cuts Commission and their most recent publication is totally silent on the policies Johann Lamont targeted in her ‘something for nothing’ speech. “Johann Lamont’s Devolution Commission is a shambles – but it seems that her Cuts Commission is to be a secret! People in Scotland deserve to know what Labour has planned for the policies which help with the cost of living, and which people across the country rely on. “From free prescriptions to concessionary travel, we know that Labours Cuts Commission is working to axe the popular policies of the Scottish Government. It’s time that Johann Lamont stopped trying to sweep her Cuts Commission under the carpet and came clean about her cuts agenda for Scotland.”
