John 4:39 From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, "He told me all the things that I have done." This is the story of the woman at the well. Jesus told the woman that she had five husbands and the one that she was living with was not her husband. She goes back to town and tells the men about her conversation with Jesus. In verse 29 we are told that she asks them if He is not the Christ. They believed in Him. John 4:29 states, The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us." From this we understand that she knew about Messiah before she met Jesus. When she met Jesus and heard what He said about her and about Himself, she believed that He was the Messiah. We are told that the men of the city also believed in Him. According to 1 John 5:1 they are born again. They are saved. They are believers in Him. Is it not possible, I would say probable, that the woman at the well could have been saved when she believed the OT message about Messiah? Is it not possible that this story in John gives us the point in time when she met the one who fulfilled the OT prophecies of Messiah and she recognized that Jesus was the Messiah?
