John Gaul Lebo WROTE TODAY: The Education sector in Nigeria has collapsed beyond Redemption. I cannot place the blame squarely on either government, the managers of education or teachers. I still remember that 17 years ago i missed 1 full year and 3 months as an undergraduate , due to ASUU strike. Then it was a military regime, led by IBB and later ABACHA, i cannot quantify the loss, Some of my friends left for cameroun,Togo,Benin Republic,South Africa and even equatorial Guinea. Today,we are in a democracy and yet the issues is getting worse, We have seen over 10 Ministers of Education, all of them ASUU members and yet there is no solution. We have a president Jonathan Goodluck who is a lecturer,an ASUU member who is on leave of absence. The standard of Education in Nigeria is at the lowest ebb,and everyone must be blame. But will the mere fact that ASUU wants government to attend to the welfare of its members and increase funding to the University solve the problem. Will funding alone and welfare issues as critical as they are, restore the educational sector.? Will the proposal to privatise public universities solve the problem? Share your opinion with me please.
