John Korasie: The Redux After the initial fury, and the - TopicsExpress

John Korasie: The Redux After the initial fury, and the formulaic apology that was offered by Ms Trauernicht, there still hasnt been much in terms of clearer explanations as to what really went wrong. The theories and excuses about there being more entries than anticipated have been dismissed on the basis of logic. And now, we are settling into that quiet ,comfortable complacent place that is the fertile feeding ground of impunity.. no more questions to answer, no more excuses needed. ... or is that really the case? No. Some runners are taking this seriously, because they know what risk they were subjected to, and believe they neither got value for money, nor the reasonable assurance of safety, so they are demanding redress. Now, when this happens, dear Defence AC, it is good to respond, but you must be careful not to be facetious, even when frustrated at dealing with problems you have brought upon yourself. Your end up digging a deeper hole. I present an excerpt from a reply to a runner: ...I need to bring it to your attention that your entry fee covers more than just water on the road, but also the referees, the announcer, the coke, the traffic police (R350ppphx4), insurance, medals, doctors, carguards, Western Province Athletics per person running, flyers, prize money and lucky draws etc. WPA rules require a minimum of 3 sachets per expected entry per water table ie 27 per person in our case (9 water tables) which means about R4-05 in your case. If you want me to refund your money for the water, you must just forward me your bank account number etc, but unfortunately I will not be able to concede in your request to refund you for the race... Wow. so, we know a few things from this response: 1. How far below the standards of 3 sachets per runner you fell 2. That you are not really remorseful, and you feel that one runner demanding this is devoid of principle and really just interested in R4.05, not in you addressing him and all of us with respect. (if it is indeed such a paltry sum, you could well have over-catered, and watered your sports field with the remainder) 3. That had nothing been said, you too would have taken the same tone as many of your officials who said to us, not another one of you complaining! we have already know there is a problem! Well Played. Runners are the nicer people in the world.. that is why it hurts so bad when we are disrespected, in word, attitude and deed. This is not a witch-hunt, it is a call to accountability. Other Race organisers would also do well to sit up and take notice.
