Hooksett recently made Manchester the default school for assignment of Hooksett children, who do not choose a school for themselves, from the selection of Manchester, Pinkerton, Londonderry, Bow, Pembroke Academy, other public school or private school. Hooksett asked a question back in May, to be able to tell the parents selecting high school for their child this year...If a family selects Manchester for their child for next year (2015-2016), will Manchester guarantee in writing that the child will be allowed to complete high school in Manchester, since the current agreement ends in the childs junior year, and nobody knows for sure if a new contract will be negotiated by that time to cover the childs case. This was an obvious oversight by last years board and Manchesters negotiators with the Manchester settlement, however all of the other agreements (Pinkerton, Bow, Pembroke Academy and Londonderry) clearly state from the receiving schools that the child will be allowed to complete their education at their school. The question was asked in May. We are now nearing September, a few on the BOSC (including the Mayor) seem to be hoping to put Manchester at a disadvantage by foot dragging, while some on the Hooksett school board are attempting to make it a fair process for all the schools (and others are using this as a case to support a push towards Pinkerton): https://youtube/watch?v=2wgEVysQh5w Thankfully there are some voices of reason on the BOSC that are not afraid to speak up as we all attempt to move forward with growing high school partnerships. I am hopeful that when a Hooksett parent asks Can you guarantee that my child will be able to finish at these high schools? my answer will not have to be The school board can guarantee that for Bow, Pembroke Academy, Londonderry and Pinkerton, however at this time, we cannot guarantee that for Manchester. Unfortunately, what these different schools do to promote relationships (or not) is out of my control. When they ask me why I may have to simply say one word...... politics John Lyscars Founder - H.E.L.P. - Higher Education Lifts People https://facebook/groups/helphooksettkids/ Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. ~Martin Luther King Jr also a member of the Hooksett School Board I Listen, Learn and Take Action for Hooksett This is not approved by the full Hooksett School Board.
