John MacArthur grew up in a typical revivalistic fundamental - TopicsExpress

John MacArthur grew up in a typical revivalistic fundamental church. My father was pastor and he lived the BIBLE. I assumed that everybody in the church was saved. That was an assumption. I assumed that if you attended church, walked the isle, filled out a card that you were saved. In high school I began to question the leadership in my dads church. Their lives did not really attest to what they professed. I knew there was something deeper and more real than what I saw in peoples lives. I did not know where to find it. I found some mystical books. Books by EM BOUNDS. I read about people who got on their knees and prayed. I was wondering where this real spirituality was. I was sort of raised in decisional evangelism with the raised hands and kneeling benches and walking the isles with a very undefined doctrine of salvation.. I watched people who were in the church their behavior and talk created doubt in my mind that they were truly saved. One in high school who played back field on football team...he would witness to people and talk to people in the park there about Christ. We graduated together. He went on to college and declared himself to be an athiest. I did not have a category for Ralph. I went to college and then to seminary. Another buddy captain of the football team again. He was headed for seminary he said. He and I led BIble studies. He graduated and got a Ph.D. in philosophy and denied the faith and was arrested for lewd conduct. I really did not have a category for him. I went to seminary had another friend. He was the son of one of the leading faculty members my professor. After he graduated he set up a Buddhist altar in his house. I just did not have a category for him. https://youtube/watch?v=_l5PWGkcoE4
