John Paul II told George Weigel that he did not remember having convinced a Christian woman to return the Jewish child she had been sheltering to the boys family after WWII (a popular tale of JPIIs heroism during the Holocaust). But this story, of how he helped a young Jewish girl in 1945, and possibly saved her life, *has* been verified. He was reunited with her in 2000 when he visited Yad Vashem.
