John Skinners send off was amazing. So many different types of people all coming together to pay their respects to a much loved man. It taught me today that the world seems large when everyone is so far apart but when we all come together to solidify a single appreciation, the world moves in harmony to a point where we all might as well be standing next to each other. I remember my first day of CYM. He told me beforehand at HAKA to keep an eye out for him. Im dont handle very well when introduced to a new social setting; I was so nervous; I had no idea where I was going; all of the other students were rushing pass me with these huge intimidating instruments and then in the crowd; there he was with the loudest smile and his arms wide in the most touching welcome gesture I have ever seen. Now an emptiness will fill the hallways as a painful reminder that he is no longer with us, but if we could just see the look on his face once he reaches Heaven, we wouldnt cry for him. It feels weird to think that he was changing lives decades before my existance. And to have sat in his last ever theory lesson over the summer, to see his face light up in the nursing home once Ediz had brought his keyboard. Watching him spontaneously twinkle on the piano for several minutes before beginning the lesson showed me that even in his what-seemed darkest hours, having music in his grasp appeared to put the rest of the world in a void. The only fact about our lives is death. Everything inbetween is solely up to lifes hosts. The music read, played and made by me will be in his name for he will exist through our song. God was missing a soul like Mr. Skinners in His Kingdom but his deeds here are far from forgotten. John Skinner, MBE; in peace he rests but in us he lives on.
