Johnny Manziel is scheduled to start Saturday vs. Vanderbilt despite wearing a sling to practice last Monday: Johnny Manziel led the Texas A&M Aggies to a 31-24 lead over the Auburn Tigers going into the fourth quarter Saturday but had to be helped from the field after suffering a shoulder injury. Manziels shoulder on his throwing arm was slammed into the ground after a scramble in the red zone. Of course, Manziel wanted to return to the game, but an attempt to throw the ball on the sideline confirmed the injury was serious. Manziel tried to throw a football on the sideline. Stopped himself, shook his head: I cant. After the attempt, Manziel headed to the locker room, as reported by Brent Zwerneman of the San Antonio Express-News: Before the injury, Manziel had thrown for 352 yards and four scores, but he was used in more of a rushing capacity than normal in an attempt to counteract the effective pass rush of Auburn. It was effective, as Manziel led the team in rushing with 66 yards on 12 carries, but it ultimately led to the injury. Matt Joeckel replaced Manziel for the remaining 3rd quarter. Manziel returned to the game in the fourth quarter with Texas A&M down 38-34. Manziel slings it on the 1st play. Aggies down 4 and driving. 8 minutes to go in the 4th. The Aggies went on to lose the game 41-45. A&M WR Mike Evans just said Manziel was in a sling during Mondays practice. A&M said that Johnny Manziel will be fine to play Sat and is out of sling today, per source. #Aggies. A&M coach Sumlin added that depending on how Manziel does in practice today through Friday will determine whether hell go with Joeckel.
