Johnnys Red Liners Easily Ice First Place Uncle Puck in 6-2 Victory. Give the Pucks Their Worst Loss This Season. When the Johnnys Red Liners met up with Uncle Puck, both sides understood that one team would get their first regulation loss of the season. Uncle Puck had rattled was undefeated for the first six games of the season because they scored 42 goals and gave up only 9. On the other side, the Red Liners scored only 35 goals and gave up 13. They also thought the Pucks were beatable even with those stats as most of them were inflated by beating up on weak teams. The expected close contacted ended up not close at all due to a second period scoring explosion that would carry the guys in red to a 6-2 victory. Both teams were feeling out each others strengths and weakness. The was quick on both sides with the Liners taking short shifts and trying sustained attacks. Uncle Puck would score first after the Liners were unable to clear the puck from their zone. By giving up that first goal, the Liners began to worry if this was a sign to come. But Easy E would even up the score with half a minute left to play in the second period after finding the empty net off Toes cross-slot pass and easily beating the Puck goalie. WIth the score tied at the start of the second period, the Liners took a breather and tried to use that momentum to score more goals. And boy did they score more. The Druck fired a slapper from the blue line that slipped past the Puck goalie who was down because of MK being pushed into him by a Puck defenseman. They tried to argue for goaltender interference but the refs ruled the defenseman was to blame. The Puck were now losing which had never happened to them during this season. Dirky flustered them even more after popping in a loose puck, the eventual game winner, a mere eight seconds later. Jimmy Z capped it off with the Liners fourth goal five minutes later. The Puck were now disorganized as they were now down, not by one goal, but three. They did manage to get a second goal about mid way through the period to shrink the deficit. Into the third period, the Liners only carried over a two goal lead which some consider worse than a one goal lead as teams tend to easy up. The Liners had learned from their past lessons and stretched for that fifth goal. They did not have to go far as Easy E would get another goal early into the period. The Puck tried to claw back by throwing more breakaway attempts at the Liners. Bigfield held firm and deflected them. In the closing minutes, Jimmy Z skated in alone and deked around the Puck goalie to pop the puck just inside the post. Even though the Liners thoroughly beat Uncle Puck and both have 12 points, Puck has more wins, 6. The guys in red outplayed and outhustled their opponents and were rewarded. Their next matchup will be against the Beer Bistro on Sunday, Nov 16 at 2:40pm (JIH East).
