Johnnys View 8/12 (Day 19) 1) medical term for the day: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)...this is one procedure the teams were discussing as means to fix a bile duct leak😱....and this is an acronym that would make the Boeing Gang proud! 2) as of tonight, both the liver transplant team and the trauma A-team were recommending not doing this more aggressive ERCP procedure based on further evaluation of the ultrasound and MRCP scans from last night.😀 3) the teams are meeting more tonight with the radiologists to agree on next steps but they are prepping Chewy, starting at midnight, to have another drain tube put in in the morning, this time on the left side to relieve a growing fluid pocket that is pushing on his stomach and liver....probably causing his nausea and lack of appetite...this is good news and Chewy is actually wanting this to be done. 4) this probably doesnt make sense to most, but it was both humbling and extremely comforting to hear the transplant team say when he got transferred to us he was #1 on the transplant candidate list...now theres others at higher risk and he will soon be off the list 5) we also were reminded how blessed and fortunate we have been when the a-team lead told him you are the lucky you werent killed....from the fall...me or your dad wouldnt have been so fortunate....hard to make light of this one but I was thinking later that maybe Im getting a bit long in the tooth even if I dont feel it. 6) Chewy has come a very long way and we are convinced the future is bright. 7) He is now up 19-nil and we hope for more relief and progress tomorrow To close on another upbeat note: Background: Chewy has had trouble sleeping and likes to cat nap at the side of his bed while sitting up....kinda wierd Me: Chew why dont I elevate your bed to make you sit upright and I can prop up the sides with pillows? Chewy: No Im ok...i like to sleep like this ....an hour later his fav (and cute) nurse assistant Itzia comes in.. Itzia: Chewy! Youre falling asleep and I cant let you shower and have you fall.....How about I raise your bed so youre sitting up and I put pillows around you and the I check on you in 30 minutes?? Chewy: ok..that sounds good! ...I think to myself..WTH?!?!? Oh well...Chewy sleep good and fight hard again tomorrow Luv ya Dad
