John’s Passing On Friday, July 4, 2014, my Mentor and Friend of some 23 years, John William Benson, passed into the Eternities. His body was kept on life-support till the 5th, but the doctors do not expect him to survive and intimate that he is essentially brain-dead. John sacrificed all he held dear in this life in order to discover the truth about income taxes and paid a very heavy price for the knowledge which he obtained by his search. It is fitting that he chose July 4th as the day of his Passing into the Eternities, for July 4th is also the day during which Thomas Jefferson and John Adams passed into the Heavens. I will write more of John in the near future; at the moment, I am too overwhelmed with grief at the passing of this good and saintly man to say much more. His family members are gathering in Salt Lake City to tend to the last services to be administered to John’s body and to his memory. I am in Redfield, South Dakota, and will not be able to get back to the family services. Pam, his Brother Ken’s Widow, was at his bedside at the University of Utah Medical Center, put her cell phone on speaker, held it to his ear and let met speak my last words of comfort, thanksgiving and love for a man to whom I have devoted the last 23 years of my life. I choked out my words of parting through sobs and tears! I will miss John dreadfully! I did hear the nurses and Pam chuckle when I told John that if I was sent to the “hot spot,” would he occasionally send down a little water. I’m sure he would! I also asked him to meet me when my time came to pass over, but hoped that such a time would not come to pass for quite a few years. I also told him that I would keep his work and his legacy alive all the days of my life. The Heavens will shine brighter tonight and forevermore with John’s bright, shining star in the night skies!
