Johor Land Plans To Build 8,000 Affordable, Low-Cost Homes: JOHOR BAHARU, Sept 3 – Johor Corporation through its subsidiary Johor Land Bhd will build 3,600 units of affordable and low-cost houses over a five-year period on land the two entities own. President and Chief Executive Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said the corporation’s development plan, which begins this year, involves seven locations in Iskandar Malaysia and several other high-value locations in the city. “Over 3,600 units of homes are expected to be completed by 2017, while a total of 8,000 units are expected to be ready by 2020, with a gross development value of RM1.2 billion. “With such a high development cost, it is our hope that the state and Federal governments give their cooperation and support especially in the form of financing grants, infrastructure and fast approvals,” he said. He was speaking at the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on the development of affordable and low-cost houses between Johor Corporation and the state government as well as another MoA between Johor Land and Institute Sultan Iskandar of Urban Habitat And Highrise (ISI) here today. Kamaruzzaman signed on behalf of Johor Corporation while the state government was represented by State Secretary Datuk Obet Tawil. Johor Land was represented by its Managing Director Lukman Abu Bakar and ISI by its Executive Director Professor Dr Mohd Hamdan Ahmad. The signings were witnessed by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Moahmed Khaled Nordin, who is also Johor Corporation Chairman. Kamaruzzaman said the houses planned for the five-year period are in Taman Seroja, Tampoi (304 units); Bandar Dato’ Onn (1,150); Bandar Tiram Phase 1 (634); Bandar Tiram Phase 3 (450); Bandar Baru Majidee (400); Kempas (360) and Larkin (340). However, he said, construction will depend on development approvals from local authorities, the agencies involved, and ongoing surveys on market demand and supply. “We also plan to build various facilities including shop lots, kinderagrtens, surau and mosques as well as playgrounds, and these housing projects will need to have their infrastructure upgraded in tandem with the increased number of residents,” he said. Johor Corporation will also continue to play an important role in helping the state government correct the imbalance in ownership of properties by Bumiputeras in urban areas, he added. The MoA with SIS will include a survey on Bumiputera property ownership that will look into ownership patterns in Iskandar Malaysia from 2005 to 2012, the effectiveness of government policies in raising Bumiputera property ownership, and market sentiment affecting property values. dlvr.it/3vQWRQ
