Join in for a Picket to stop oil drilling. The proposed drill site is only 1000 feet from homes (less than one fifth of a mile) and adjacent to the National Panther Refuge and western Everglades. Barron Collier owns the land and has partnered with Hughes Oil, who early in May, applied for state permits to drill an oil well in Golden Gate Estates, the rural edge of Naples. We say NO oil drilling in our backyards, in our panther habitats, and in our protected wetlands. If it’s legal, it shouldn’t be. Our real natural resources in South Florida are our communities, our drinking water, our wildlife, and our protected wetlands. Not oil. We’re calling on Barron Collier to withdraw their application based on unreasonable danger to residents, water, wildlife, and wetlands.
