Join our team For Kallans Heart for this beautiful 5K through Mattapoisett October 13. Our daughter Kallan lives with a congenital heart defect, which I never had the need to know about before she was born: Tetraology of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia. Now it a part of my daily vocabulary and awareness, along with many cardiac medical terms I never wanted to know so much about. Kallan has endured one open-heart surgery, five cardiac catheterizations, and a hip surgery in her short 4 years. Soon she will need her conduit (taking the place of her pulmonary artery) replaced. This will require a risky open-heart surgery. Funds from this race will go towards research to make a bio-engineered conduit/valve that would grow with kids like Kallan and eliminate the need for repeated open-heart surgery.
