Join us Sunday afternoon Nov. 23 at 3 pm for a staged reading of letters, journal entries and other writings from On This Day in Nantucket History The event will be in the Nantucket Atheneum Great Hall and the readers are Gabrielle Gould, Amy Jenness, Sarah Oktay, Mark Avery and Len Germinara. The reading is titled Benjamin Franklins Nantucket Cousins. Benjamin Franklins mother was a Nantucket native and he and his siblings kept in touch with their island cousins, many of whom shaped American history. They helped establish whaling, sailed all over the world, negotiated with the British and passionately pursued Quaker social reforms. Lucretia Mott and Maria Mitchell found national fame for their work. Captain Mayhew Folger discovered the mutineers from the ship Bounty on a remote Pacific Island. Captain Timothy Folger was the first to chart the Gulf Stream. The reading will conclude with a simple reception, book sales and signing. And, its free admission.
