Join us as we Celebrate the 2014 Legacy Award Winner Bonney B. Sevellon! Bonney had a rich and varied professional journey. Rather than climb a single career ladder, she changed fields every time she reached for a new rung. She operated a small company called Wrightype Inc., ran an educational program for Junior Achievement before moving on to A.T. Cross. There she served three and a half years as the Midwestern Sales Manager followed by an equal number of years as Product Manager of two prestigious lines of writing instruments. Moving on, Bonney became the Vice President of Public Relations for PotterHazelhurst, then the state’s second largest advertising agency. During this time Bonney was a leader in our state’s women’s movement. She was a Founding Mother of The Rhode Island Women’s Network. She sat on the Board of Directors for both the YWCA Rhode Island and the Women’s Development Corporation where she also served as Chair. She is a member of the 1992 class of Leadership Rhode Island. Years after her retirement from Big Sisters, Sevellon joined the agency’s board and the board of the agency’s Donation Center. Bonney brought this wealth of experience and skills to a cause dear to her heart, becoming Executive Director of Big Sisters of Rhode Island in 1989. The board charged her with introducing best business practices and stability to the agency. Of all the changes she introduced the most significant was the establishment of the Donation Center. In fact when Sevellon retired in 1998 to become her stepmother’s caretaker, she told the board and staff that the Donation Center was her legacy to the agency she loved so much.
