SKIN CANCERS: FROM PREVENTION TO TREATMENT Skin cancers pose a significant threat to public health, particularly in the sun-soaked region of Southern California. Genetics and sun exposure may play critical roles in the development of skin cancers and early diagnosis and prevention are critical. We will describe all forms of prevention and early diagnosis, including sunscreen use, signs of suspicious moles, how to perform a careful self skin examination, and when to see a doctor. We will review all the current treatment modalities including surgical therapy and chemotherapy.
