Join us on one of our safaris and see this beautiful country :) NAMIBIA ADVENTURE Booking ref: G06 17 days / 16 nights This seventeen day guided safari combines the highlights of Namibia with four nights of camping adventure in the rugged Damaraland and Kaokoland. Visit the Afri-Cat Foundation at Okonjima, enjoy the abundant wildlife of the world famous Etosha National Park before starting on your adventurous camping trip to the Hoanib river valley in search of desert elephants, Purros and the diverse Palmwag Lodge Concession. After a visit to the rustic Palmwag Lodge, explore the romantic coastal town of Swakopmund, the bare plains of the Namib Desert and the apricot coloured dunes of Sossusvlei. Day 1: Arrival at Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International) Airport, where you will be met by your guide. Subsequent drive via the capital of Namibia, Windhoek in a northerly direction via Okahandja to Okonjima Lodge, home of the Africat Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation and protection of Namibian wild cats, in particular leopard and cheetah. Enjoy the opportunity to admire and photograph these predators. One overnight stays at Okonjima Plains Camp or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast incl activities. Day 2 and 3: Departure from Okonjima via Otjiwarongo, Otavi and Tsumeb to Mushara Bush Camp. Mushara is located only 8 km from the von Lindequist Gate on the eastern outskirts of the Etosha National Park. Discover the mysteries of the African bush in Etosha National Park. We are spending the days doing game drives in the park and visit the numerous waterholes that attract a large diversity of animal and bird species. Two overnight stay at Mushara Bush Camp or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast Day 4 and 5: From east to west past Fort Namutoni and Halali Camp the route leads to Okaukuejo Camp in the Park. Okaukuejo is located 17 km from the southern entrance of the Park and famous for its floodlit waterhole, where visitors can observe at close quarters a spectacle of wildlife congregating and interacting. Two overnight stays at Okaukuejo Camp or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast Day 6: Today’s destination is the new Dolomite Camp located in western Etosha. Dolomite offers a profound and world class, first of its kind experience inside the biodiversity-rich western section of Etosha National Park and presents to its guests a wilderness experience that is unmatched in terms of privacy and landscape viewing. One overnight stay at Dolomite camp or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast. Day 7: The route leads through wilderness area to the Khowarib Gorge, a narrow gorge in the dry Hoanib River and home to a few Damara and Herero families. We set up camp at the Khowarib community campsite. The campsite sits on the banks of the Khowarib River. Enjoy the first night of your camping adventure, Namibia’s spectacular scenic beauty and colourful bird- and wildlife as well as the noises of the African nights, whilst sitting around the campfire. One overnight camping - Fullboard incl local drinks Day 8: Depart after a hearty bush breakfast in a north-easterly direction towards Purros. Short visit to Sesfontein, before we follow a dry river valley to Purros. Our camp will be set up at the Purros Community Campsite. The campsite is located on the Hoarusib River and a great place from which to experience the scenic beauty and diverse wildlife in a natural setting. The dry riverbed of the Hoarusib is frequented by elephant, giraffe, kudu, zebra, ostrich and other species. We visit an Ovahimba village in the area in the later afternoon followed by a sundowner excursion into the scenic and beautiful Hoarusib River valley. One overnight camping - Fullboard incl local drinks Day 9 and 10: Departing into a southerly direction, we are entering the Palmwag Concession via the Hoanib River. Whilst moving southwards the next two days, we track wildlife and visit various hidden springs. Only a few places on the planet can offer the level of privacy and wilderness experience as the approximate 5000 square kilometre private Palmwag Reserve.. This desert reserve has a number of fresh water springs that support healthy populations of animals including desert-adapted black rhino and elephant as well as large populations of the Hartmann’s mountain zebra, giraffe, oryx, springbok and kudu. The predator population is the largest outside the Etosha National Park with over 100 lion, cheetah, leopard, brown- and spotted hyena. Birdlife is prolific and diverse with most of Namibia’s endemics present. The Concession also supports nearly 70% of the worlds largest free-ranging population of black rhinoceros and functions as the crucial core area in the region. The unique fauna and flora within the Concession also serve as a national, regional and global attraction. Two overnights camping - Fullboard incl local drinks. Day 11: After a last bush breakfast, we make our way to Grootberg Lodge, a paradise on the Uniab River and one of Namibia’s oldest and most popular tourist rendezvous. One overnight stay at Grootberg Lodge or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast Day 12: En route to Swakopmund, we visit Twyfelfontein, which means “doubtful fountain” and resembles a large, open-air art gallery. This treasure house of rock engravings left by stone-age artists is regarded as one of the richest collections of rock engravings in Africa. South of Twyfelfontein is the Burnt Mountain, a panorama of desolation with coloured rocks contrasting vividly against the grey-black surroundings. The Organ Pipes, a mass of basalt slabs in a ravine gouged out by a river, is another geological curiosity in the area. Arrival at Swakopmund in the late afternoon. One overnight stay at Central Guesthouse or similar - Bed & breakfast Day 13: Morning dolphin cruise on the Walvis Bay Lagoon. The afternoon is at own leisure. One overnight stay at Central Guesthouse or similar - Bed & breakfast Day 14: Departing from Swakopmund after breakfast in a southerly direction through the Namib Naukluft Park via the Kuiseb- and Gaub Passes” into the low plains of the Namib Desert to Desert Homestead and Horse Trails. Overnight stay at Desert Homestead & Horse Trails or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast Day 15: Early morning visit to Sossusvlei, (a clay pan surrounded by some of the highest sand dunes in the world), which is surrounded by the possibly highest dunes in the world and is filled only with water in years when exceptionally good rainfall is received. We visit the Sesriem Canyon. It is said that the canyon got its name during the time of the ox wagon, when a person had to use six harness straps to haul water from the bottom of the canyon. Overnight stay at Desert Homestead & Horse Trails or similar - Dinner, bed & breakfast Day 16: Return journey via the Remhoogte Pass and Rehoboth to Windhoek. You will still have some time to explore the capital of Namibia. Overnight stay at Galton House - Bed & breakfast. Day 17: Depending on your departure time, spend the day in Windhoek doing some last minute shopping. In time for check-in on your outbound flight, road transfer from The Elegant Guesthouse to Hosea Kutako Airport. Bid farewell to Namibia!
