Joined the family of Private Robert Mactier this week to unveil a commemorative statue of Shepparton, Victoria area’s only Victoria Cross recipient and officially open the upgraded Memorial Gardens in Tatura, Victoria. This region has fought to have Private Robert Mactier recognised in this way and to be alongside his family to open this tribute was truly an honour. It was an excellent event. Joined by The Nationals for Regional Victoria candidate Greg Barr for Shepparton, who has long been an advocate for the project, Greater Shepparton City Council, which jointly invested in upgrading the Memorial Gardens, Shepparton RSL and others. The story of Private Robert Mactier was a tragic one, but equally inspirational and this is a magnificent statue of a great Australian, Victorian and Goulburn Valley hero.
