Joint Meeting results: • A Transportation and Planning board representative was appointed --Mark Hollar for one or both. A variance for a cell tower by Catawba Heights elementary school passed with no representation due to a retirement and the board not appointing one. • The 3% raise in the teacher supplement passed. $90K from County taxpayer funds, $90K from district taxpayer funds. Average is $88 per year. This raises the supplement from 66% to 68% of state average but based on 2013 numbers. • County will move $1 M from capital to school district operations and add an additional $1M. • School consolidation, ie. closings are possible. A facilities assessment is underway of all schools. The 13 oldest will be done first and expected complete in November. Regular Board meeting: . • Human EAP program was adopted for employees at a cost of $38K. Used to have in 1990s. CMs and other areas have now. May help in hiring admin says. • Surplus items disposed of on govdeals/ $31K to date. No itemized list was given. • Information on clubs was presented in response to Colliers request and Howells proposal to cut distractions and consolidate some activities maybe not into weeks and weeks during the year but to just a spirit week? Majority opposed. Mr. Boone said the Principal survey was 100% for autonomy on this item. No surprise there. (Belmont Central had an interim Principal mid year when Moore retired and all activities including spirit week and 5th grade celebrations before leaving for middle school that all prior years had enjoyed were cancelled by this Principal. No equity there. Qs Why did they send Dr. Balknight to a school choice conference?
