Jon Fitch: Cain Velasquez beats AKA teammate Daniel Cormier in UFC heavyweight fight While we know that a fight between current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez and teammate Daniel Cormier will never see the light of the day, Jon Fitch, another member of American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), already knows who hed put his money on. During his recent appearance on The MMA Hour, the former No. 1 UFC welterweight contender says that while both men posses insane equal fighting abilities, youd have to bet on Cain to defeat Cormier based on the fact that DC isnt a true heavyweight. He explains: [Cormier] is not a true heavyweight. He might be 225, 230 soaking wet. Hes not a heavyweight. Hes so good as an athlete and a fighter that he can get away with beating heavyweights up, but hes not a true heavyweight. Just based on size, you have two guys who are equally skilled, equal work ethic, equal punching power, equal everything, youre going to put your money on the guy who weighs more. While the bigger man doesnt always win (see Daniel Cormier vs. Antonio Silva), perhaps that was Jons best way of putting it nicely that Cain would have flat-out defeat the former Olympian. Nevertheless, that fight is just another in a long list of fights that never came to be thanks to friendship. In this case, you can also add teacher vs. student, as Cormier also serves as Cains wrestling coach. After his unanimous decision victory over Roy Nelson at UFC 166 this past weekend (Oct. 19, 2013) in Houston, Texas, Cormier has vowed to move down to the light heavyweight division in an attempt to receive his first-ever UFC title fight and avoid an all-AKA heavyweight title fight. But if they ever did throw down ... who do you think would win?
