Jonathan Orders Life Salary for Designer of Nigerian Flag, Honours Three Others with Houses in Abuja President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered that the designer of the Nigerian flag, Pa Micheal Akinkunmi be placed on a lifetime salary. The president gave the order during the presentation ceremony of the National Honours award which held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), in Abuja on Monday. The president while giving an express approval for the placement of Pa Akinkunmi on a lifetime salary said his salary should be the equivalent of a Senior Special Adviser to the president. Pa Akinkunmi was earlier today honoured with the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic OFR award. Born in May 1936 in Ibadan, Oyo State in the then Western Region to the family of the late Pa Akinkunmi, Sir. Michael Akinkunmi was barely 23 years old when in the year 1958 while studying in London, entered for a competition advertised in the newspapers for the design of a national flag for Nigeria. Apart from the competition prize money of 100 pounds given to Pa Akinkunmi at the time of the competition, he has not been honoured in any way by successive Nigerian governments. President Jonathan while appreciating the recipients of the National Honours also ordered the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammaed to give three of the award recipients a House each in the Federal Capital Territory for their dedication to duty and honesty in service.The three awardees who bagged the houses includes a Traffic Warden, Cpl Slomon Dauda, Head of presidential steward at the State House, Onuh Isaac Micheal and Mr. Imeh Usuah, an Airport taxi driver who returned the sum of 18 million forgotten in his car by a foriegn diplomat.
