Jonathan and 2015: The River Between Saturday, September 28, 2013 Goodluck Jonathan Canticles... By Eddy Odivwri The chicken is coming to roost now. Where? How? Which chicken? I mean with the outburst of those executive rascals during the week. I still don’t understand. Who are the executive rascals? Who else but those rebels you people in the media have nicknamed G7 governors. Oh, now I get what you mean. So which chicken is coming to roost? Didn’t you hear the so-called G7 governors saying President Jonathan should not contest the 2015 presidential election? But the man has not said he would contest. All he said in New York is that he has the right to contest as the constitution provides. So that does not expressly mean that he would run or not. But need you ask? Can’t you read the body language? Can’t you see all the preparations and schemings on the political turf? Stop all these talk about reading body language. The contest and leadership of the country in 2015 is all too important to be reduced to body language reading ability. Let the man declare his stand. This the end of the September that Tony Anenih gave him as deadline to declare. Why the dilly-dallying? Take it easy. You know our president is a very methodical and calculated man. He doesn’t rush his moves. Wha’rever! Look, it is because he is reticent about it that he is being scared out of the race by the G7 governors. Forget that rubbish! Nobody can stop the President from contesting. It is raw rubbish! He has the right to contest, and it cannot be circumscribed by any gang up. And I can tell you for free that Mr President will contest, whether G7 and their cohorts like it or not. Yes, he has the right to contest, but those opposed to him also have the right to oppose him, right? And please before you sound too loud on this right issue, do not forget that this same President stopped his state governor, Timipre Sylva from contesting even when he (Sylva) was constitutionally qualified to do so. That was in January 2012. Were you not in this country? What is good for the goose is good for the ganders So what are you implying? That because Jonathan stopped Sylva, then it is Sylva’s turn to stop Jonathan? Let him try it. In any case, didn’t Obasanjo stop Chinwoke Mbadinuju from contesting second term in Anambra in 2003? Were you not in this country? Is Jonathan the first president to stop a governor? And did you not even hear of the terrible and indicting security reports against Sylva at the time? Hmmm, open your eyes! Don’t be deceived. All those self-generated so-called security reports are not worthier than the sheets in which they are written. Didn’t they promise to play the tape of the recordings against Sylva on NTA? Till date, did you see the tape? Open your eyes, my brother. Look, let’s not divert attention from the issue. The so-called New PDP has no right to ask Mr President not to contest. It is sheer impudence! How can you tell a sitting president not to contest? It is not done anywhere in the world! The most they can do is not to support him, or work against him. But to declare, ab initio, that he should not contest is to over-reach themselves. Are they INEC? Is it because it is Jonathan? Could this ever have been contemplated against Obasanjo, who even wanted third term and the governors were even filing their support? That is the point! Obasanjo played better politics, hence his governors were supporting him even for an unconstitutional move. He knew how to carry them along. Not this President who has polarized the rank of the ruling party with his queer politics that crushes and curses any form of dissent. You get it wrong. You do not understand Mr President. He is the most humane President we ever had. A man so concerned about the progress of the country, can’t you see how grey hairs are sprouting from his head everyday, as he thinks day-and-night of how to truly transform Nigeria? Look, I don’t know how humane you say the President is. I have heard that he described himself as a Cobra; that he hits his victims when they are most vulnerable. I therefore cannot reconcile that credential of being very humane. Emmm em. Mr Man, I don’t know what you are talking about. All I know is that President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan will contest the 2015 election. And the heavens will not fall. Yes, the heavens never fall. But the truth is that it is one thing to contest, and it is another to win. That is the river between. That is the challenge, my brother. Tell Mr President to stoop to conquer, that as the father of the nation, he must, as a good father, beat his children with one hand, and pull them to himself with the other hand. To fight to finish will hurt both sides. It is time to sheathe the swords of offence. Mr physician, heal thyself.
