Jonathan pledges not to disappoint Abians President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has pledged not to disappoint Abians if returned to power after the February polls. The President, who stated this during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential and gubernatorial campaign rally in Umuahia, said that Abia has done a lot for him and it is his turn to reciprocate. Jonathan also reiterated his commitment to create two million jobs in the country annually, and to create an enabling environment for commerce and industry to thrive in the state. He added that the city of Aba would be turned to the Japan of Africa. “I will restore the past glory of Aba if given the mandate to serve the nation again, improve on power supply in Abia State, revive the railway line so as to link Abia to other states for easy movement of goods and services”, he said. He further pledged to sustain the 35% affirmative action given to women in politics and stated that the youths, especially those in entertainment and sports would be given the opportunity to excel. The National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu expressed joy that Abia is 100% PDP and pledged their commitment and dedication to bring the needed change to Nigeria and urged Abians to integrate the former Governor of Abia State. According to Mu’azu, the former governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has been working with the president and the PDP in Abuja and pleaded with Abians to work with him. In his speech, the Governor of the state Chief T. A. Orji, said that Abians are ready to vote PDP come February 2015 elections. He noted that this could be seen in the increased collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) which moved from 24% to 82%, through the active mobilization of youths. Highlighting the achievements of Mr. President, to include the revival of the NNPC Osisioma Depot and intervention of gully erosion sites across the state, Governor Orji stated that security in Abia has taken a new shape through the intervention of Goodluck Jonathan, adding that employment opportunities were created for Abians also through the YouWin programme, Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) as well as SURE-P Programme. He further revealed that the president has accommodated the reconstruction of Port Harcourt –Enugu Expressway to ease transportation. The governor, however, called on Abians to give 100% support to the President so that more dividends could be attracted to the state. The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan in her speech, called on Abia women not to relent in the support so that the transformation agenda of the Mr. President could be realized. She further thanked Abians for their support so far and urged them for continuity. Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu was officially presented with the PDP flag. The Abia PDP chieftains, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Sir Vincent Ogbulafor, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and others graced the occasion. In his speech, the Governor of the state Chief T.
