Jose Mourinho gushes over fabulous Chelsea display Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table after defeating West Bromwich Albion 2-0. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hailed his side’s first-half display after they beat fellow Premier League side West Bromwich Albion 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. The Blues boss appeared concerned heading into the fixture with the Stamford Bridge outfit renowned for dipping in performance levels immediately after the international break. Yet, with summer signings Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas taking time off over the break to nurse injuries, they immediately slotted back in to their ruthless routine with an outstanding first half display. Brazilian-born Spain interational striker Costa got the ball rolling, slotting in his 11th goal of the season after being teed up by Oscar with an inviting cross after just 11 minutes. Belgian wizard Eden Hazard struggled to make an impact against Wales last week but soon found his rhythm for the West Londoners, doubling his side’s lead with a close-range finish midway through the first half. Although the second half didn’t produce any more goals, it was still an accomplished performance and Mourinho couldn’t contain his delight when describing his side’s start to the cameras at full-time. “The first half was brilliant, beautiful, he told Chelseafc. The quality of our football was high, another dimension. We were playing so well, so fast and fluid. We made the pitch wide, creating spaces to play. We scored two goals and should have scored more than that, it was fantastic. “In the second half it was different; we decreased the intensity of our ball circulation and made it easier for them to occupy the spaces. You have to think first about the points and we did that very well. If you ask me would I have liked to kill the game in the first half, 3-0 or 4-0, yes I would. I would have liked to score more goals in the second half and give the crowd more of what we did in the first half, but it wasn’t possible. “They did really well, you could feel it from the beginning. I can stimulate and motivate but the reality is it’s up to them and they were fantastic.” The victory leaves the Blues seven points clear at the top of the table with second-placed Southampton not in action until Monday.
