Joseph C Monmonier, athletic director for Hilton Head Island High School, shared some great news, moving pictures and video from a very special event that his Seahawks participated in. Our girls tennis team logged in about 46 hours of community service volunteering at the PTR International Wheelchair Tournament. They had fun were able to pair up with a wheelchair player and play doubles in addition to serving lunches and dinners. They had a great time and we are on the schedule next year to do it again, stated Jennifer Weitekamper, girls tennis coach at HHIHS. https://youtube/watch?v=fE4ISsFEBUc&feature=youtu.be short video https://youtube/watch?v=z3fF-MvL4oY Pictures All the attendees mentioned the warm hospitality and sincere interest they felt from all the volunteers at the event. In a world that seems to only see what the disabled can NOT do… we delight in the opportunity to showcase their extreme physical talents and abilities. Their courage, determination and enthusiasm for tennis competition are awe inspiring. We also host the Special Olympics Tennis Championships, Nov. 6-9th if you would like to volunteer, just let us know, stated Julie W. Jilly, Tournament Director. *Next year’s Wheelchair Tournament is Oct. 1-4, 2015.
