Joseph was mistreated and hated by his brothers who sold him into slavery. When circumstances brought them back together face-to-face and Joseph had the upper hand, he did not treat them as they treated him, instead he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. If you have been mistreated then pray that God will soften and not harden your heart. The mark of a true follower of Christ is love, love even for those who have persecuted us. If you allow the root of bitterness and unforgiveness to grow, it will choke out the abundant life that Christ promised.
