Journalism is supposed to be a call, a vocation and not a means to - TopicsExpress

Journalism is supposed to be a call, a vocation and not a means to an end. When people enter this noble vocation as a means to an end, there is a likelihood that its values, principles and the core of its very foundation would be compromised. Against this backdrop, I dont celebrate journalists who have sold themselves out to the powerful as their personal chola boys and girls. I dont celebrate journalists who hide the truth in order to set the agenda for their sponsors. I dont celebrate journalists who harangue, malign, ridicule, insult and discredit others for holding a different opinion or belonging to a different political/religious/ethnic grouping. Bravo to those journalists who speak and write the truth with responsibility. Bravo to those journalists who always stand with the poor and afflicted. Bravo to those journalists who exercises their rights without underming that of others by not hiding the truth or maliciously discrediting their perceived enemies. And bravo to those journalists who were truly called to this noble career for acting as the voice of reason that keeps this profession firmly planted on the ground. Happy World Press Freedom day.
