Journalist Counters Abia Government Claims That He demanded N5 Million For Damning Report Posted by: Channels Television Posted date: July 30, 2013 In: Current, Sunrise Daily | comment : 0 Comments and 0 Reactions A journalist, Norman Obinna has refuted claims by the government of Abia state that he demanded N5 million to kill an unfavourable report of the state. Mr Obinna, who was a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, had last week debunked claims that the Theodore Orji’s led administration has completed many projects in the past six years in a report he titled: Abia State: Theodore Orji’s Government of Deceit And Falsehood. The journalist also posted photos of uncompleted projects that the Abia Government claimed were finished and commissioned. The next day, through the Chief Press Secretary, Ugochukwu Emezue and the Special Assistant on e-Governance, Nnaji Obed, the Abia Government in a statement titled: Attempt To Extort Money From Abia State Government By One Don Norman Obinna, accused Mr Obinna of demanding for N5 million bribe and that because he didn’t get the money that was why resorted to blackmailing the government. Mr Obinna however said he did not prepare the report to blackmail the government. He said he wanted to verify the claims the Governor Orji made on democracy day, 29 May 2013. He said, “I went to Abia state simply because of the speech my governor made on the 29th of May this year that is the democracy day. “Armed with the speech, I decided to investigate and look at those projects they’ve been making noise about. On getting to those projects I was angry.” The journalist said contrary to claims that the government rebuilt the old Secretariat, the building was merely painted.
