Joy of Giving One of the greatest attitudes a person can have in his life is Gratitude. There are so many things in our life that we have consumed, enjoyed, used; but for which, we have literally done nothing! We are using lights and bulbs given by Edison, airplanes invented by Wright Brothers, medicines discovered by various doctors and scientists, computers invented by Charles Babbage, Microsoft Office given by Bill Gates and so on. We are using infinite such things in our life, but without contributing equally to the world! Inspite of this fact, we have always been cursing the world for not giving us enough and sufficient amount of things. We keep on groaning that we are not getting the things the way we should have got. We moan that ‘I don’t deserve this! I should be getting something more!’ But think twice before moaning, do you even deserve the thing for which you are complaining??? Many of the things we think are our birth right, like taking meal thrice a day, wearing nice clothes, wearing shoes, etc.; but did we ever think that these ‘basic’ things are not being given to so many people across the world! Young children are devoid of their childhood! They are forced to live without having food for days! My friend witnessed this scenario of a 5-star hotel in Mumbai - There was a huge dinner party in the hotel. After the dinner, large amount of food was left. Poor people were waiting on the other side of the road, as they knew that there’s always extra food remaining. The waiters brought the residual food outside, and threw in a dustbin!!! And then the poor people collected their share of food from the dustbin. It was the ‘policy’ of that 5-star hotel that they did not make their food available outside the hotel; instead, they throw it away. What is the meaning of such policy??? If you dont need something then simply give it to somebody who needs it. We must understand the needs of everyone. Why are we concerned only about ourselves? When will we start to give?? The story below will definitely signify the importance of giving – There was a person, Mr. Aditya, who did equal sins and good deeds. When he died, God was very confused whether to put him in the hell or in the heaven. So God asked Aditya to choose any of the places. Aditya said, “I want to visit both the places first and then I will decide.” God agreed. And asked him which place he would like to visit first? Aditya chose Hell. An Angel was sent to guide Aditya towards the hell. There was a glorious entrance gate; beautifully embossed with ‘Welcome to Hell’. As soon as they entered, Aditya got a very sweet fragrance and a soothing atmosphere. He could hear the most pleasant melodies in the background, and there were ‘Hoors ’ (extraordinarily beautiful women) welcoming him with the prettiest smile on their face. Then at one corner, he saw the best dishes of any world served on a round dining table. But when he looked at the people sitting around the table, he could clearly see that they were dying of hunger. They looked so starved and skinny. It seemed they hadn’t eaten for years. After a close observation, Aditya noticed that their hands were tied with a rope and their fists were closed and attached to a spoon which was 5 ft. long! This was the reason why they couldn’t eat. Aditya then proceeded to see the Heaven. While entering the heaven, Aditya saw the same kind of glorious gate embossed with ‘Welcome to Heaven’. When he entered, he felt the same soothing atmosphere with pleasing fragrance and melodious music along with the same smiling Hoors . He could also see the same dining table with the same mouth-watering foods. But the only difference was that the people sitting around the table were visibly healthy and happy. He noticed that even their hands were tied in the same way; and the spoon tied to their fist was….also 5 ft. long! Then why were these people healthy and the people of Hell starved? It was only because these people were feeding each other! The world can be a very better place to live for if each one of us understand and realize his duty to give. It is in our hand to create a Hell or Heaven on the planet we live. * * * It is so difficult for us to live in a different city without our parents and family even for 10 days. And here, these orphans are living their whole life without their parents. Is it not our duty to take care of them? To give them their share of love? It is almost impossible for us to close our eyes for a day; and there are people who have got only one colour in their life, BLACK!!! Is it not our duty to colour their lives? There are many people who have got shortened legs or shortened hands or one leg or one hand or even none of these. But we are not concerned about them. We are just so very busy in our own life. We have become so selfish that we are least bothered about peoples worries and sorrows. The bitter truth of life is that if you cannot feel the pain of someone, the next number will be yours. People moan that Maine kisika kya bigada?, Why has this happened to me? But they dont understand that their intentional avoidance of peoples pains were enough for them to face this trouble. When you die, you will take with you nothing but the blessings of others and your own good deeds. So try to be a better human being and spend some amount of your wealth for the society. And then you will see the magical thing happen- the more you give, the more you will receive. When you spend your notes smilingly, they will happily come back to you, and that too along with all their relatives. But if you hold them tightly, pulling their pants down; then they will tell all their small small siblings not to go with this person, or else he will pull down your pants! Just one more very hurting thing – We see many people going to the malls and purchasing things on a marked up price, which they know is way above the actual price. But they dont have any scope to bargain and happily pay for it, because it increases their standard. Whereas when they go to the roadside market, where the street vendors/ local farmers sells them fruits and vegetables (at a very less margin); there they will use all their knowledge of economics and keep bargaining. This shows their actual standard! These are the people who sound wise but act foolish. It’s a humble request not to bargain with these people. They do business not to build a shopping mall, but for their daily living. Experience the feeling for being the reason for someone’s happiness
