In 1889 Rudolf Luis Jacob Beck, who lived in Nickerie came into contact with the Advent message. He was 18 years old. The cotton on the plantation was harvested, packed and shipped to Germany. Beck had the habit of going to see how the ship was loaded and then went to the harbor.
