Jubilee Trophy: Nicola Weber gives Edmonton Victoria Select the gold Goal: Edmonton Victoria Select Nicola Weber 88’, Edmonton Victoria Select won the Jubilee Trophy thanks to a goal by Nicola Weber. Her 88th minute strike would prove to be the lone goal, in a game of few chances and plenty of turnovers. The game started slow, on a crisp morning, perhaps because both teams were tired having played consecutive games to reach the final. The only real opportunity came in the 37th minute when a cross was struck to the far side of Victoria’s box, just out of reach of Le Royal’s Jade Girard, who stretched but couldn’t get a foot on the ball. In the second half, the game picked up as both teams began to show their desire to claim the title. However, Le Royal had the stronger intent, nearly clinching the match in the 83rd minute, following a scramble in Victoria’s box that resulted in a last minute goal-line clearance by Edmonton defence. Less than a minute later Le Royal’s threatened again, winning a free-kick just outside of the 18 yard-box. With her leg tapped up, nursing an injury, Joëlle Gosselin’s right-footed strike rattled the crossbar. However, Victoria would be the team to find the back of the net, when 23-year old substitute, Weber struck a one-time shot, from a tough angle, surprising Le Royal’s keeper. Following her left footed goal, Weber began jumping in excitement joined by her teammates. But this celebration paled in comparison to what followed a few minutes later, as the referee blew the final whistle. Instantly a flood of white shirts took the field as Victoria’s entire team, including their coaching staff, embraced on the field. With the 1:0 win, Edmonton Victoria secured it’s fourth Jubilee Trophy and the Jubilee Trophy title of 2013 Canadian Soccer Association Sport Chek National Club Champion.
