Judge Mathis hit the nail on the head! We have to take action at all levels of our society, beginning with self poliecing and education in our own communities. We have to become involved in the lives of our community members in order to affect change within our communities. Meeting violence with more violence and self destruction will only perpetuate the negative stereotypes that plague our relationships with law enforcement agencies and legislative bodies. We have to accept responsibility for one another and care for our own needs and dismiss the paralyzing false notion of entitlement whether real or imagined. If the haves in our community would help the have-nots through mentorship and accountability then we as a people can begin to reshape the culture of our society. Not just the haves who have money, but the haves who have education, the haves who have civic pride, the haves who have an understanding of this nations working parts and underlying cultures that make us who we are. The best of us must reach out to the rest of us. The honorable law enforcement officers have to hold the less than honorable officers accountable and the honorable citizens in our communities must hold the less than honorable citizens accounable. Each of us needs to make a commitment to reach one and teach one with a view towards paying it forward. Not just in dollars and cents but in dollars, knowledge and sense...Just a thought!
