Judo has defining moments... For me it was just after my 17th Birthday. I was just coming off of a 2 year break from Judo where I tore nearly every ligament in my knee in a Wrestling accident and had to endure a total reconstruction. I entered into my first Senior International competition, The New York Open, and found myself in the bronze medal match against an opponent who had just placed 7th at the Senior World Championships. I remember no one expected me to win and kept telling me what a great experience it would be to get to fight such a seasoned competitor. During the match I was losing by 3 scores but I never gave up and threw him for Ippon with less than a minute to go. I still reflect on that match to this day whenever I find myself struggling because that moment made me realize that I could accomplish anything as long as I always believe in myself. -Nick
